Our exercise groups are based on research that demonstrates that gentle exercise improves physical wellbeing, mobility, flexibility, strength and balance. It also improves mood, wellbeing and reduces stress as well as reducing the risk of social isolation and loneliness.
We are delighted to offer our new weekly Chair Fit and Relaxation session, suitable for all fitness levels as all exercises are performed sitting down.
We currently run one Chair Fit and Relaxation group on:
Thursdays from 2:30pm-3:30pm, Cowbridge Scout Hall, The Butts
What will happen when I come to the group?
You will be welcomed to the group by a member of staff and your name will be taken for our register. This is to make sure we know how many people are in group each week.
You will be asked to pay £7 per person for the 1 hour session. Carers go free, if they are attending with a member.
Seating is provided for everyone and members of staff can assist people to their chairs, if required. All of the exercises during the session will be performed sitting down.
The first half an hour consists of gentle strength exercises, using resistance bands, followed by half an hour of relaxing seated Tai Chi Shibashi Qigong, a gentle, relaxing form of exercise featuring slow repeated movements designed to improve your strength and flexibility. You can join in as much or as little as you want to. Go at your own pace - there's no pressure!
Please note that this group differs from our Gentle Exercise and Social Groups, which are 1.5 hours long and include social time and refreshments after the exercise, which can be completed seated or standing. If you are interested in attending these, please see their dedicated page for more information.
All our venues have accessible toilets and hand washing facilities.
