Covid-19 is a new illness that can affect your lungs and airways. It is caused by a virus called coronavirus, which is spread in minute water droplets expelled from an infected person’s body through coughing, sneezing, breathing or speaking. The virus can be transferred to a person’s hands and then on to surfaces. Symptoms for a person infected can be mild, moderate, severe or fatal. It must be regarded as a high hazard.

This risk assessment has been prepared while With Music in Mind groups in Cowbridge, Llantwit Major, Barry and Penarth are still closed during the Covid-19 pandemic. Its purpose is to understand and propose mitigations to the risks that would arise if groups re-open for singing and social networking and/or for With Music In Mind gentle exercise groups.

The document has been prepared on the assumption that if any of the With Music in Mind groups were to be re-opened, they would need to be prepared to the standards set out in the UK and Welsh Government guidance, including for the safe use of multi-purpose community centres (and indoor gatherings therein) and guidance for protecting people defined as clinically vulnerable. There is no specific guidance on singing groups but the latest guidance on performing arts does offer an indication, as does the guidance on churches and places of worship. With Music In Mind will follow the guidance as written in the links below, and will abide by the risk assessments of each individual venue.

UK Government guidance (at 22 August 2020) states “premises or locations which are COVID-19 Secure [are] able to hold more than 30 people, subject to their own capacity limits.

The key measures set out in this guidance are to maintain social distancing and high standards of hygiene to reduce the risk of virus transmission.

This risk assessment was last updated on 11th August 2021. It is intended for staff, volunteers, members and visitors and clients of With Music in Mind.
